Pool Rules
- Swim only when a BBMAC Lifeguard is on duty.
- Lifeguards have the responsibility for the safety of all facility users, follow their directions at all times.
- Proper swimming attire is required, including bathing suits, board shorts, or rash guards. Cotton clothing, cut off jeans, Brazilian or G-string bathing suits are NOT APPROPRIATE SWIMMING ATTIRE AND NOT ALLOWED. For females, appropriate swimwear is that which covers the breasts, buttocks, genitals and pubic regions. For males, appropriate swimwear is that which covers the buttocks, genitals and pubic region, i.e., specifically street clothes, thong and see-through swimwear are prohibited.
- “Deck Changing” or changing your clothes on the swimming pool deck is prohibited at all times.
- Please DO NOT enter the water if you have any open wounds or infectious diseases.
- Please DO NOT enter the water if you have had diarrhea, stomach flu or have been severely sick in the last two weeks.
- Smoking, illegal drugs and alcohol are prohibited at all times.
- Swimmers are NOT allowed to practice hypoxic breathing or under water breathing control drills at any time.
- Rough housing and horseplay are not permitted.
- In an emergency, you will hear one long blast of a whistle; stop whatever you are doing and follow the BBMAC staff’s instructions.
- Always walk on the pool deck, don't run.
- Children 12 years of age and younger must be supervised by an adult (over 18 years of age) in the BBMAC at all times.
- Children who are not “water safe” must be within arms reach of an adult at ALL times while within the water. “Water Safe” is defined as a child who can safely tread water and demonstrate forward momentum above and below the water, and can demonstrate breath control. Lifeguards have the discretionary authority to require an adult to be in the water with any child.
- Children, who are not toilet trained, MUST wear NON-DISPOSABLE swim diapers. No exceptions! These may be purchased at the front desk.
- BBMAC employees are not responsible for personal belongings. All participants are encouraged to lock their valuables up at all times.
- Glass containers are prohibited inside the BBMAC at ALL times.
- All guests must exit the water and pool deck ten (10) minutes before the posted closing time. The posted closing time is when the facility will be locked to the public; this means you must exit the bathrooms by the designated close time.
- Before entering pool area, a hot soapy shower is highly recommended.
- Please put your sun screen on at least 15 minutes before entering the pool.
- Participants who become verbally abusive or use explicit language with the BBMAC staff will be asked to leave, and may be banned from the facility.
- No roller-skates, roller blades, skateboards, scooters or bicycles are permitted to be ridden within the BBMAC. Skateboards may be checked into the guest services staff.
- Chewing gum is NOT allowed in the BBMAC facility at any time.
- Pets are not permitted in the facility at any given time unless they are trained for assisted living.
- In the event of inclement weather, the BBMAC may close certain sections of the pool or the entire facility due to visual and safety limitations.
- Children under the age of 18 are not allowed in the 50 Meter Pool unless they have passed the deep water test in the Instructional pool first. The deep water swim test consists of half a length of freestyle, demonstrating side breathing and forward momentum on the surface of the water, half a length of backstroke demonstrating constant forward momentum and excellent body position, and treading water for 30 seconds. A lifeguard will monitor the swim test in the Instructional pool and then accompany the child to the 50 Meter Pool for the deep water portion of the test.
- Do not swim under the bulkhead or over the lap lanes at anytime.
- Set-up for the pool varies. Please check the schedule, the website or with the front desk staff to determine what activities are available. Classes and rentals may restrict the availability of certain areas of the pool.
- Somersaults, back dives and other inappropriate entries from the deck or bulkhead are not permitted.
- Children or adults wearing lifejackets are not permitted to enter the 50 Meter Pool.
- Lap lanes are for continuous swimming. Be considerate of others. Two or more people can swim in a lane. Circle swim by staying to the right.
- Return all equipment (kick boards, pull buoys, noodles, etc.) to the storage bins after using.
- Starting blocks are not for recreational use. Qualified instructors or coaches are required for supervision during usage.
- Hanging on the lane lines is not permitted.
- Lifeguards or any staff member reserves the right to remove anyone from the pool.
- Do not hang or play on the railings.
- NO DIVING into the Instructional pool at any time.
- While the lap lanes are in use please do not swim through them or participate in free swim in them.
- All life jackets must be Coast Guard approved, and the wearer must be with in arm’s length of a responsible adult at all times. U.S. Coast Guard approved floatation devices are permitted. Please check with a lifeguard or guest services staff member to ensure any floatation device you bring in is acceptable prior to entering the pool deck. Coast Guard approved life jackets are available for check-out at the front desk.
- Floaties, children’s floatation swimsuits, inflatable rings and inflatable devices used in place of swimming skills are not allowed. The Lifeguard on-duty or BBMAC Director will determine if an item is allowable.
- Children under the age of twelve MUST be supervised by parents at all times. Parents who leave children under the age of twelve unattended may have their membership suspended.
- The deep water swim test may only be taken in the Instructional pool with a designated lifeguard. The test consists of a 25 yard swim and treading water for 1 minute. Children who pass this test are allowed in the water without an accompanying adult. An adult, however, must still be present on the pool deck. Please contact the aquatic staff to arrange the test. Once the deep water test has been passed, a unique mark of the day will be written on your hand with a black marker. Please also give your name to the front desk staff as you leave so your child may refrain from taking the test repeatedly.
- Kickboards and pull-buoys are for lap swimmers only. Children participating in swim lessons will be permitted to use designated kickboards.
- While water aerobics classes are taking place, please do not swim across the area being utilized.
